About The Tehachapi Depot: This one-story building was based on SP's Combination Depot No. 23 standard plan. It was Tehachapi's second depot, built in 1904 to replace the original depot, which had burned the previous year. It, too, was tragically lost to fire, in 2008. The depot was located on SP's San Joaquin Division at Milepost 361.7. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It was closed by the Union Pacific railroad in 2006, and was in the process of being restored when it burned. A replica station was built to replace it and houses the Tehachapi Depot Railroad Museum. This blueprint is a recreation of the depot as it was built in 1904 based on historical plans, photographs, and other research.

About The Draftsman: Jean-Guy Dube is a professional draftsman and apprenticing architect. He has researched and written about Southern Pacific depots since 1983. From the first tape measurement to the finished blueprint can take Mr. Dube several months to complete. His work includes the use of rare photographs and other historical resources to produce a historically accurate blueprint. Dube also uses traditional methods of blueprinting to create a blue with white line print from his original vellum.

Care of Blueprints: Each blueprint is created one at a time by hand from a single vellum and, by their nature, will have minor variations in color and clarity. Blueprints should never be exposed for long periods to sunlight or bright rooms, or they will fade and yellow. They will run if exposed to water.

About The Series: These diazo blueprints are measured and drafted drawings. They are based on SP standard depot plans, historical photographs, and, in the case of the surviving depots, on measurements of the actual buildings by Jean-Guy Dube. Each handsome and informative print is suitable for framing. Each blueprint includes noted floor plans, sections, and elevations (except Ventura County sampler). The prints also contain historical notes about the buildings. Each blueprint order is mailed separately in a protective tube.
